We Are Friendship Village: Jeannine Goetz, resident Friendship Village Sunset Hills

Question: What is one of your favorite things to do? Answer: Well, we play pool here (at Friendship Village) three days a week. Some people think “swimming pool” when you say “pool,” but we play billiards. When we were young, we all played pool in our rathskellers (basements), but now it’s kind of more serious. We have a tournament coming up. It’s going to be interesting and fun. We’ve been playing at Friendship Village for about two years. It depends on the day or the moment how much I’m improving. […]

We Are Friendship Village: Bob Huskey, resident Friendship Village Chesterfield

Question: Why did you get involved with education? Answer: “Like my wife, I read a lot, and I read a lot of history and nonfiction. When I realized the magnitude of the second world war at a young age, I knew I’d eventually be drafted so I wanted to be a little bit more informed as to where we could be going and what was going on. I went to a little one-room country school which was very tiny. I remember one of the first things I learned was when […]

Question: What memory immediately makes you happy? Answer: “When I think about my travels. Wonderful. When Jimmy (Diane’s late husband) and I went to China on our 50th wedding anniversary, that was really special. We went on a river cruise. Another good one was when we went to Russia. We went from St. Petersburg to Moscow. We also traveled all over Canada in an RV. We also went to New Zealand for a trip and Australia for another. When Jim was working, he was always busy, so when he retired, […]

Question: In a few words, can you describe your lifestyle? Answer: “I’ve had an adventuresome life. I’ve always been an ambitious person and I’m not your typical female – there’s no way around that. I became a nurse and married someone from India, and we traveled a lot. We got to visit the Taj Mahal and went on a Viking cruise one time even because since my parents are from Austria, they had family history up there. I wish young people had a little bit more opportunity to travel to […]

Question: What is your favorite thing? Answer: “My favorite thing is when someone makes me a good meal. My favorite meal would be a filet mignon with mashed potatoes with a some kind of vegetable. That would be good.” – Joyce Crets, resident Friendship Village Sunset Hills #WeAreFriendshipVillage #seniorliving #retirementcommunity #FVatHome #assistedliving #MemoryCare The above photo and text are part of a year-long project we call We Are Friendship Village. We Are Friendship Village: Madge Boyer, resident Friendship Village Chesterfield

Question: Where did you sing and what has that meant to you? Answer: “I started singing when I was 12, although I didn’t perform solos until I was in college. I sang with several audition-only groups including the St. Louis Symphony Chorus, the St. Louis Chamber Chorus, and spent 17 years in the American Kantorei, which is a Lutheran group of 32 singers. I was also the alto soloist in several churches including Christ Church Cathedral downtown for 5 years. I had stopped singing solos when I was 60, but […]

Question: What is your favorite junk food? Answer: “I really like ice cream. Ice cream and cake. I love that. I’ve got a sweet tooth. But I had just one cookie today. I’m trying to be good. I love Chocolate Hotel, which is a very dark chocolate ice cream. I like that with a nice piece of chocolate cake. But vanilla ice cream with chocolate cake is good, too. But I’m trying to cut out all junk food now. So, right now my junk food is popcorn because it’s healthy, […]
