Question: What made you want to get involved with the Humane Society? Answer: “My husband and I had Basset Hounds that we’d truck around from place to place with the kids as we moved, and I never had animals growing up. Obviously, we started with the animals in adulthood with the kids and that was I think what drew me to want to do more. I’m not sure exactly how it happened, but initially my intent was to go and walk the dogs and play with the cats, like most […]

Question: What kind of stories or books do you like? Answer: “I love Danielle Steel’s books. She is the best writer. I have read every one of her books. She keeps you in suspense. I just love it. She just has you. And they’re not too racy. I like the romance part of it, but I like it clean.” – Jean Glovanovitz, resident Friendship Village Sunset Hills #WeAreFriendshipVillage #seniorliving #retirementcommunity #assistedliving #independentliving #fvathome #homehealth The above photo and text are part of a year-long project we call We Are Friendship […]

Question: What’s your favorite thing to eat? Answer: “Candy. Any kind. Fudge is my favorite. And vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup is one of my favorites. And for a dinner, I’d like ham and mashed potatoes with green beans. And a cup of decaf coffee or maybe a 7up. Question: What do you think made you love arts and crafts? Answer: “I love paper. I’ve enjoyed crafts since I was young, and I always had an endless supply of paper that my dad would bring home from work. It’s a way for me to express myself and it’s fun! It’s also rewarding to make something personalized for someone else. I like to make crafts, cards, and boxes to put treats in and share. I’ve taught some classes here and people have enjoyed them. It involves folding, cutting, pasting, creating […]

Question: How did you start writing here at Friendship Village? Answer: “I have been a part of the Welcome Committee here at Friendship Village and when they asked if anyone would be interested in profiling the new residents, I raised my hand and I couldn’t tell you why, but I belong to the writing class now that meets twice a month on Monday. So that’s how I got back into it, but it’s always been something I’ve enjoyed. When I was younger, I had a friend that I moved away […]

Question: Do you miss anything about working? Answer: “Probably the people I worked with. That’s about it. I’m so busy outside of here (Friendship Village). My time at Barnes (Jewish Hospital) is very important to me. I do a lot of volunteering. What I get out of volunteering is being involved and helping others. I’ve been privileged. I’ve been blessed. I like to do things because I like to do them…not to be recognized even though I was Catholic Man of the Year two years ago for St. Louis.”- Charles […]
