Question: What made you want to get involved with the Humane Society?
Answer: “My husband and I had Basset Hounds that we’d truck around from place to place with the kids as we moved, and I never had animals growing up. Obviously, we started with the animals in adulthood with the kids and that was I think what drew me to want to do more. I’m not sure exactly how it happened, but initially my intent was to go and walk the dogs and play with the cats, like most people do when they go and volunteer at a shelter. Through my work there, they were just starting the pet therapy programs and they were just beginning to recognize the value of having the animals in those environments. You begin to see once you get into it too the bad things that are going on, like animal cruelty. So that was certainly one of the things that prompted me to want to get more involved. There were a lot of bad things that happened, but the good always outweighed the bad. Whenever you were able to do something to find an animal a home or prevent one from getting put down that otherwise may have, that always made it worth it.” – Mary Mungenast, resident Friendship Village Chesterfield

The above photo and interview are part of a new, year-long project we are callings We Are Friendship Village. We are posting these photos and interviews to our website’s blog section eacg day as we meet with residents at Friendship Village Chesterfield and Friendship Village Sunset Hills. The project gives a short introduction to the residents who make up our wonderful senior living communities in addition to giving a peek at something you might not know about them!
At this year’s end, we will publish A BOOK showing all the great residents who participated. AND PARTICIPANTS get A FREE COPY OF THE BOOK! During the year, we will also share the photos and stories on Facebook and other social media such as Instagram, so look for them there and please follow the hashtag #WeAreFriendshipVillage to stay current with the updated images and stories!
We think it’s a wonderful opportunity to show a bit about who we are! Residents’ participation takes just a few minutes, so it’s easy to be a part of it and we think everyone will like getting to know their neighbors and friends just a little bit better!
If you are interested in participating (or know someone else who might be), feel free to call us at (314) 270-7837 or email at nagysteve@fvstl.com or just stop by the marketing suites in either Sunset Hills or Chesterfield. We have 365 of these to do over the course of the year, so everyone is welcome!
We look forward to seeing you as we get to show tidbits about the senior living residents who make our Friendship Village retirement communities fantastic!
Thanks and we hope to see you soon!
