Question: What kind of stories or books do you like? Answer: “I love Danielle Steel’s books. She is the best writer. I have read every one of her books. She keeps you in suspense. I just love it. She just has you. And they’re not too racy. I like the romance part of it, but I like it clean.” – Jean Glovanovitz, resident Friendship Village Sunset Hills #WeAreFriendshipVillage #seniorliving #retirementcommunity #assistedliving #independentliving #fvathome #homehealth The above photo and text are part of a year-long project we call We Are Friendship […]

Friendship Village Sunset Hills Resident Skip Johnson Donates to Hospital as Tribute to Late Wife

Former Jefferson Countian Clyde “Skip” Johnson was looking for a way to give back to local residents and to keep his late wife’s memory alive. Johnson believes the substantial donation (Johnson chose to not disclose the amount in this story) he made to Mercy Health Foundation Jefferson to create the Becky Johnson Memorial Fund accomplished both goals. Johnson, 80, of Sunset Hills, said he and his wife, Florence Rebecca “Becky” Johnson were high school sweethearts who moved to Jefferson County in 1980. Johnson ran several businesses in the county over […]

Question: What’s your favorite activity to do in your free time and why? Answer: “I’ve always been a reader. I’m working on a biography right now about Laura Ingalls Wilder’s life who wrote Little House on the Prairie, which is 500 pages in small text that has been very interesting. But I’ll read fiction as well. I really like historical fiction set in a context of years. For example, the British books about King Henry and his wives – I’ve read most of those. I love to read because it […]

Question: How did your gardening hobby become so large? Answer: “I was big into gardening. When I was younger, about eight or nine years old, I had an aunt who got me involved in gardening with rosebushes and things like that. When I got married, we took some classes on how to garden your landscape and one thing led to another. I started with one 2×4 planting tray, which eventually let to racks of them, and then a lean-to greenhouse. I outgrew that and so I built a temporary structure […]

Question: What’s your favorite thing to eat? Answer: “Candy. Any kind. Fudge is my favorite. And vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup is one of my favorites. And for a dinner, I’d like ham and mashed potatoes with green beans. And a cup of decaf coffee or maybe a 7up. Simple.” – Marge Kamper, resident Friendship Village Sunset Hills #WeAreFriendshipVillage #retirementcommunity #seniorliving #independentliving #assistedliving #memorycare #fvathome The text and photo above are part of a year-long project called We Are Friendship Village. Our Annual Memorial to Remember Those We Lost at Friendship Village Sunset Hills

A somber, but substantial and prayerful group was on hand for the annual Friendship Village Sunset Hills Memorial Service which paid tribute to the 95 residents we lost in 2019. There were words and songs of remembrance and strength in our group as we took a few moments to honor the loved ones who left our community, but will always remain in our hearts. The annual Memorial Service for Friendship Village Chesterfield will be scheduled soon.

Question: Why do you think you were so drawn to automobiles? Answer: “I’m what you’d call a gear head. In high school, I was the guy that fixed your car. I didn’t throw touchdown passes and I didn’t win the literary prize, but I was very well-followed because I was the guy that fixed your car. Cars and motorcycles have been a hobby all my life. I guess it started as a kid, but with the technology of our era, there weren’t electronics. We didn’t have a TV in our […]

Question: Did you like high school? Answer: “That’s a tough one. Academically, it just went by. I met Pat (Pat Weber, George’s wife) and fortunately or unfortunately, it was good and I got a little distracted. So, my grades were average. I didn’t think I was going to go to college and I just lived day to day, I guess. Girls had my full attention and she (Pat) was one of them. She was at the top.”- George Weber, resident Friendship Village Sunset Hills #WeAreFriendshipVillage #retirementcommunity #seniorliving #independentliving #assistedliving #memorycare […]

Question: What do you think made you love arts and crafts? Answer: “I love paper. I’ve enjoyed crafts since I was young, and I always had an endless supply of paper that my dad would bring home from work. It’s a way for me to express myself and it’s fun! It’s also rewarding to make something personalized for someone else. I like to make crafts, cards, and boxes to put treats in and share. I’ve taught some classes here and people have enjoyed them. It involves folding, cutting, pasting, creating […]
