“I, the LORD, do not change. So you…are not destroyed.” - Malachi 3:6
The writings of the prophet Malachi comprise the last book of the Old Testament. As we read it, we understand that the book serves as a warning to a people who had gone astray. They had ignored the Lord and abandoned His ways. Now God was calling them to account. However, in the midst of it all, the Lord affirmed His commitment to them. Though they had been fickle, He remains steadfast in His love, devotion, and direction for them. Nothing they have done can change the fact that He is their faithful God. Because of His constant mercy, there is hope! The good news is that God has seen us on our worst day and loves us anyway. Nothing can change that! He simply continues to call us back to Him so that we might experience a charge of heart and receive His blessing. Nineteen years ago today, our nation was rocked by the terrible travesty that took place in New York. For a time, it seemed like Americans were united in joint commitment and care, rising to face the challenges that were facing us. Some might say that today we tend to be a nation divided. We are not always consistent in our actions nor our thoughts. But God never changes! He remains faithful at all times! As we open our hearts to Him and choose to follow the truths of His Word, He changes us. With the Lord working in us, we become people who once again remember what’s truly important as set ourselves to love Him and everyone around us with all our heart. Let’s draw close to Him today. He will not turn us away! And He will always be our hope.
