“Trust in the Lord will all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” - Proverbs 3:5-6
Talk about embarrassing. We gathered for our Thanksgiving meal with plenty of food, but we did not have enough seats around the table. Someone grabbed a chair across the room that looked okay, but I knew the legs needed repair. I tried to warn them. “Don’t sit in that chair! It’s broken.” They laughed and proceeded to sit anyway. You can imagine what happened next. The chair crashed to the floor with them in it. Our friend fell because they leaned not only on a broken chair. They also leaned on their own understanding. I wish they had trusted that I knew what I was talking about and only wanted to help. It’s important to use our knowledge and understanding. Ultimately, though, it’s best to lean our weight on God and trust that He wants the best.
