“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.” - Psalm 42:5
I believe in the power of talking with God. Yet the Bible also talks much about the importance of how we talk to ourselves.
The writer of this Psalm did not bypass his emotions in an apparently bad day. He was in touch with what was going on inside and dealt with it. He began asking himself questions. Why are you downcast? Why are you so disturbed with me?
After stopping to listen to his heart, he goes on to encourage himself in the Lord. “Put your hope in God.” He began to redirect his attention to God who is the source of true hope.
Caring self-talk led to the ultimate One Who Cares. “I will yet praise him. My Savior & My God.”
