“You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.” - Psalm 23:5b
In biblical times, it was customary for a banquet host to offer anointing oil to the guests. The intent was to offer a chance to perhaps wipe away the grime of the day and to add just a bit of fragrance. It was a way of saying, “come, be refreshed at my table.” An “overflowing cup” was one that never ceased to be filled. The idea is that God invites us all to come and receive from Him all that we need to be rejuvenated and find contentment. The invitation to join Him at that table still stands. He offers us cleansing and provision. What do you need from the Lord today? He invites us to come to Him and receive it.
