“When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, "Surely He was the Son of God!" - Matthew 27:54
A crisis might be described as anything that rocks your world. The Chinese word for crisis depicts it as “a dangerous opportunity.” That’s what happened here. The soldier who was guarding Jesus at the cross experienced an earthquake that caused terror. His world shook and it brought him to a crossroad of either accepting his new-found faith or choosing to remain the same. He responded by exclaiming, “Surely He was the Son of God!” Crises in life come to each of us, creating dangerous opportunities. We can use them to get better, or surrender to bitter helplessness. Let’s seize the moments when our world shakes from unexpected difficulty. Even in the midst of fear we can still cry out in renewed faith, “Surely He is the son of God!”
