Christ’s enemies were trying to trap Him by getting Him to take sides in a political discussion. All the people subjugated by Rome were required to pay a tax to the Caesar as a sign of their compliance. Jesus, however, had the crowd consider to whom their allegiance truly belonged. The One who loves us fully and who gives us life, purpose, and direction calls us to live for Him with our whole being. As we do, we find renewed strength and grace for each day. Caesar’s image was on the coin used to pay the tax. Whose image is on us?
