When the prophet Jeremiah spoke to the Israelites, they had experienced a time of significant loss. Their country had been overrun by the Babylonians. Jerusalem had been ransacked, the temple had been destroyed, and they themselves had been taken captive and hauled away. The heartache was real. The disappointment was all-enveloping. But this was not to be the end of their story. God spoke a message they could count on: He would once again make all things new. The promise of hope and refreshing to come was sure!
