Names are filled with meaning. Often in Scripture, the name given to someone reflected the hopes and dreams for who they were to become. “Jesus” was a common Greek name in those day. It was a translation of the Hebrew name, “Yeshua.” If we were translating directly from Hebrew to English, we would say “Joshua.” But when translating into Greek (and then back into English), it comes out “Jesus.” What does it mean? “To rescue! To deliver” And that is exactly what Jesus does for all who put their trust in Him. He is the Savior of the world, and His mercy and love extend to each and every single one of us.
