Dear Friends, Residents and Families of Friendship Village:
The start of colder weather is on our doorstep as November rolls along here at Friendship Villages on this Tuesday, November 10th, 2020.
At the outset, we will note that the well-known surge of COVID-19 throughout the communities around us has caused some effects within our campuses but, praise God, to a lesser extent than the community at large and our residents and staff continue to team-up to control the coronavirus in the effort minimize its impact within the Villages.
There has been some new activity related to COVID-19 at the Villages since our past update.
On the Sunset Hills campus, there are a couple of new cases of COVID-19 among the residents. Routine testing revealed a single COVID-19-positive resident in the Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation facility. Our team has reestablished the internal “COVID Care Center” to keep this resident apart from the general population and to ensure that specially trained nurses are focused on them. So far, the resident has no symptoms, for which we are grateful. Routine testing also revealed one resident in the Assisted Living facility and, while also showing no symptoms, they are under quarantine and being care-for by our expert team. Independent Living has had a couple of developments. A previously reported resident who had been hospitalized with multiple issues, including COVID, has, very sadly, passed away. Another resident had contracted COVID off campus but, before knowing that, participated in a small group activity and potentially exposed other residents, so all of those are now under quarantine with constant monitoring for any symptoms. Due to this case, all group activities have been suspended for several days. Then another resident, who remains asymptomatic, who had already been under quarantine for previous exposure concerns, did recently contract the virus from a family visitor, which has now extended their quarantine.
There is currently one employee at home with a positive test result. There are seven employees at home due to exposure to a known positive. There are three employees at home awaiting a test result.
On the Chesterfield campus, there are currently no residents at any level of care who are currently positive for COVID-19, and we are very thankful for this status. There are, however, several residents under quarantine surveillance due to potential exposure to an external caregiver who was among residents before knowing they were positive. We pray that no one contracted the virus during this exposure.
There is currently one employee at home who is positive for COVID. There is one employee finishing up their quarantine due to exposure to a known positive. There are three employees at home awaiting test results.
Our FV at Home – Home Health Agency staff has also been experiencing COVID-19, first-hand, in their travels around the region. Two home health employees are finishing quarantine from previous exposure. Two home health employees are awaiting test results.
As always, we all pray that there has been no additional spread to others and our team continues to conduct further contact tracing and asking residents to voluntarily self-quarantine when there has been a possibility of exposure when out in the community.
Please pray with us as we continue our fight to protect our residents and staff. It’s a fight worthy of the best we can give.
The Lord is with us.
