Both of Friendship Village’s locations are thrilled to announce renewed 5-STAR RATING designations for Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation at both locations! The rating comes from CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services).
CMS provides this rating as a consumer service which offers useful information to the public about the quality of care in thousands of nursing homes!
Only 11 nursing homes out of 115 in our area received 5-Star Ratings and Friendship Village has 2 of those 11!
CMS strives to limit 5-Star ratings to not more than ten percent of facilities in a given area. Before CMS began these ratings, information about nursing homes was not easily available to the public, but now families have access to that information and can easily see the differences in ratings to make the best choice for their loved ones.
The 5-Star Rating System is based on data from:
• Onsite Inspections: Thousands of onsite inspections of nursing homes by trained, objective surveyors from State public health departments and CMS.
• Quality Measures: Some quality measures that rate each nursing home compared to fixed benchmarks (e.g. prevalence of pressure ulcers, use of restraints, injurious falls).
• Staffing Levels: Self-reported data from the nursing homes on their level of staffing.
The Nursing Home Compare website (shown below) allows users to make meaningful comparisons among nursing homes, regarding quality of care. It is:
• The most comprehensive overview of nursing home quality in the U.S.
• Accessed by thousands of visitors each month.
• Used by families, nursing homes, hospital discharge planners, researchers, news media and the public.
