Question: What’s a hobby you’ve had that some people might not know about?
Answer: “I’ve always loved cats and my mom had a Siamese cat and when I was young, we always had cats and dogs. And then later in life, I showed cats for seventeen years. I started with Abyssinians and also showed Russian Blue(s) and travelled throughout the Midwest, as far as I could drive…I never went on a plane with my cats. And I retired after I Granded (Grand Champion) five cats from the same female I had named Spun by the Moon. Three of the Grand Champions were mine and the other two were offspring from her.”
“It’s a very expensive hobby, but I’ve met friends from coast to coast and I really miss going to cat shows. I retired in 1999 when my husband Ron retired. That was the deal we made with each other and then we did a lot of travelling. We would spend two months in Florida and go other places, too.” – Shirley Duckworth, resident at Friendship Village Sunset Hills
After gathering about 170 interviews and photos, we will publish A BOOK featuring all the great residents who participated at Friendship Village Chesterfield and Friendship Village Sunset Hills. AND PARTICIPANTS get A FREE COPY OF THE BOOK! During the period of working on the project, we will also be sharing these photos and stories on Facebook and other social media such as Instagram, so look for them and please follow the hashtag #WeAreFriendshipVillage to stay current with the project!
We think it’s a great chance to share a bit about who we are! Residents’ participation takes about fifteen minutes, so it won’t take much time to be a part of it and we think everyone will enjoy getting to know their neighbors and friends a little bit better!
We look forward to seeing you as we get to share insights about the senior living residents who are making our Friendship Village retirement communities so great!
Thanks again!
