Question: What is something you’re interested in, Carl?
Answer: “I’ve always been a history and geography buff and I served from 1960-63 in the Army Security Agency. I was actually in the Philippines for two years and I really enjoyed the service over there. Now with my Optelec, (reading magnification machine) I like to read, which is the only way I can anymore because of my macular degeneration. I like to read mostly nonfiction things. I have a Time Life series of books about different things. Like for example, I have one about the Civil War and one about Native Americans. I like some fiction, too. I’ve always enjoyed a good western. I like Larry McMurtry, who wrote the Lonesome Dove novel. I like the realism aspect in Lonesome Dove. Some of the typical westerns aren’t very believable with the same type of hero every time, and that’s nice, but it’s not reality. So I really liked that McMurtry’s books were different.”
