Question: What values have been important to you?
Answer: “I’m more family-oriented than anything else. As each of my children had an addition to the family, we were there. My one daughter married a Navy man, so we were all over. She had five children too, so that kept us busy. My husband travelled with his job all over the world. In fact, I think what my kids remember most, and I’m sorry, is going to the airport to pick him up and drop him off! I think being so family-oriented comes from what past families passed down to us. My sisters Mary and Zona live here, too, so I think that family was instilled in each of us. I think that’s part of the reason Mary and Zona moved here, because this is where they started. We do a lot together and we’ve always been pretty close, getting together a lot for holidays and graduations. Our ancestors started those traditions and we’ve just carried it on. You need to have a base or a starting point somewhere, and that’s important. I lived in Washington for a while but coming back here is like home. You know where everything is and feel more comfortable. I think people really miss something when they don’t have family support. I mean, the kids tell you they appreciate your support and they do.” – Joan Bowers, resident Friendship Village Chesterfield

The above photo and text are part of our new year-long project we’re calling We Are Friendship Village. We are posting these photos and brief interviews to our website’s blog section every day as we talk with residents at Friendship Village Chesterfield and Friendship Village Sunset Hills. The idea is to give a snapshot introduction to the residents who make up our wonderful senior living communities and give you a peek at something you might not know about them!
At year’s end, we will publish A BOOK featuring all the great residents who participated. During this year, we will also be sharing these photos and text on Facebook and other social media such as Instagram, so look for them and please follow the hashtag #WeAreFriendshipVillage to stay up to date!
We think it’s a great chance to share a bit about who we are! Residents’ participation takes less than ten minutes, so it won’t take much time to be a part of it and we think everyone will enjoy getting to know their neighbors and friends a bit better!
If you are interested in participating (or know someone else who might be), feel free to give us a call at (314) 270-7837 or email at nagysteve@fvstl.com or drop by the marketing suites in Sunset Hills or Chesterfield. We have 365 of these to do over the course of the year, so everyone is welcome!
We look forward to meeting with you as we get to share about the senior living residents who are making our Friendship Village retirement communities so wonderful!
Thanks again!
