Question: Did you like school?
Answer: “Yes, I liked school, but when I went to elementary school for eight years, it was a small country school and one year I was the only girl in my school. We had seven boys and me. This was in a small farm town close to Columbia, Illinois. We had eight grades and one teacher in one room. I went through my whole grade school without having anyone in my class. I don’t think it affected me very much, but I might not have gotten the education I should have gotten. I mean, I went to high school after that and was a normal kid and there were several hundred kids in my class. I went to Dupo High School (in Illinois) and I just liked being with other kids my own age. I was a tomboy. I played ball with the boys and did all the things they did. But I had a nice teacher. She was kind and tried to teach me piano because she felt sorry for me so I didn’t have to be outside with the boys all the time. – Helen Weible, resident Friendship Village Sunset Hills

The text and photo above are part of a year-long project called We Are Friendship Village. We are gathering these photos and brief interviews for Friendship Village’s website’s blog section each day as we chat with residents at Friendship Village Chesterfield and Friendship Village Sunset Hills. We want to give a snapshot introduction to the residents who make up our wonderful senior living communities and give some bit of insight into something you might not know about them. It’s always easier to make new friends when you know a little about them!
At year’s end, we will publish A BOOK featuring the wonderful residents who participated and everyone who participates, also gets a FREE copy of the book ! During this year, we will also be sharing these photos and text on Facebook and other social media such as Instagram, so keep an eye out for them! And you can follow the hashtag #WeAreFriendshipVillage to stay up to date!
We’re excited for this great chance to share a bit about who we are! Residents’ participation takes just a few minutes, so it won’t take much time to be a part of it!!
Want to participate (or know someone else who might want to?), Please give us a call at (314) 270-7837 or send an email to nagysteve@fvstl.com or drop by the marketing suites in Sunset Hills or Chesterfield. We have 365 of these to do over the course of the year, so everyone is welcome!
We’re looking forward to talking with folks as we get to share more about the senior living residents who are making our Friendship Village retirement communities so wonderful!
Thanks!
