Question: What’s something that sticks out to you as meaningful that you’ve done over the years?
Answer: “My husband and I did a lot of travelling together. Later, after our kids were grown up and moved out is when we started. My husband was a geographer and he was really into it, so that’s how we got started – but I loved it, too. It’s infectious. Once you go someplace, it’s easy to think in your mind, “I want to go to that place next!”
We went with programs like O.A.T.’s (Overseas Adventure Travel) and Grand Circle and that was great. They’d set up dinners with local people, and you’d make friends with other couples on the trips, and so on. It helped you feel comfortable in a foreign place, too, and that enabled us to enjoy it a lot more. I jotted down a list of all the trips we made outside of the country because we went so many places and did so much, I couldn’t keep track of it all when people would ask me questions about a certain place or trip!
I loved every place we went – and every place is different. Not only are they different from each other, but they are all so different from where we live in the U.S. India is fun because there’s so many people and there are a lot of large crowds. Getting to see China and the Great Wall was interesting and unique. It’s honestly hard to pick out just one place as a favorite trip. Each was enjoyable in fun in its own way.” – Doris O’Brien, resident Friendship Village Chesterfield
The above photo and text are part of a year-long project we call We Are Friendship Village. We are posting these photos and brief interviews to our website’s blog section every day as we talk with residents at Friendship Village Chesterfield and Friendship Village Sunset Hills. The idea is to give a short introduction to the residents who make up our wonderful senior living communities and give you a peek at something you might not know about them!
After gathering about 200 interviews and photos, we will publish A BOOK featuring all the great residents who participated. AND PARTICIPANTS get A FREE COPY OF THE BOOK! During this year, we will also be sharing these photos and stories on Facebook and other social media such as Instagram, so look for them and please follow the hashtag #WeAreFriendshipVillage to stay current with the project!
We think it’s a great chance to share a bit about who we are! Residents’ participation takes less than ten minutes, so it won’t take much time to be a part of it and we think everyone will enjoy getting to know their neighbors and friends a little bit better!
If interested in participating (or know someone else who might be), feel free to give us a call at (314) 270-7837 or email at nagysteve@fvstl.com or drop by the marketing suites in Sunset Hills or Chesterfield. We have 365 of these to do over the course of the year, so everyone is welcome!
We look forward to seeing you as we get to share insights about the senior living residents who are making our Friendship Village retirement communities so great!
Thanks again!
