Question: What do you think is the root of your passion for physical activity?
Answer: “I’ve always been one that believed in exercise. Probably at the root of it is because my mother and father did not exercise. My father died quite early at 69 and my mother lived a long life, but she had two strokes and a lot of physical illnesses. So, for me it’s always been, ‘What am I going to do for myself to make sure I’m a little more fit,’ and initially that was running, but it tore up my knees. My husband is a big biker so he bought me an electric assist bike last year for Christmas so I could get out with him since I can’t do the hills and whatnot. So now I have the perfect solution, where we can go out together; he gets his workout and I don’t get tired and hurt. We do a lot of walking too, and my husband and I still to this day walk about three miles in the morning around the campus. When you stimulate your brain with exercise, I think you become more productive, too. I have more energy than most people my age because I really enjoy getting out and around.” – Dianne Zimmerman, resident Friendship Village Chesterfield
