A brief set of definitions helps us understand today’s verse. “Zion” is a way of referring to not only the capital of Israel (Jerusalem), but also as a way of defining the essence of who they are as a people. To be “in Jacob,” is a way of saying “to be part of the people of God.” That means that today’s verse is a tremendous promise. The Redeemer, the One who restores and makes everything right again, will come to those who align themselves with the Lord and who turn from their sins.
