Around 2,500 years ago, the Persian empire had conquered Israel. It was a time of great societal upheaval. Systematic racism had infiltrated government policy to the point that a plot was unfolding behind the scenes to have all the Jews exterminated. But the King of Persia had fallen in love and married a Jewish girl, Esther. He just didn’t know she was Jewish. Suddenly, at the time of their greatest need, Esther was in position to influence the King and effect change. The Jewish people were rescued from their fate! Every crisis brings an opportunity. We can hide away and live in fear of the hardships in our society, or we can make the most of the role that has been given to us and strive to make a difference for others. The lesson? God has positioned us for such a time as this. Let’s make the most of it!
