“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation…” - 2 Corinthians 5:17-18
By June 19, 1865, the American Civil War had been over for more than two months. Word, however, was only just then reaching Galveston, Texas, that all slaves had been freed by Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation since January 1, 1863. It was time for a new life…but people had to come together to make it happen and to spread the news. Like this declaration that freed the slaves, the Gospel brings freedom and new life to all who will receive it. May we continue to do the work of coming together, honoring one another, and finding new life!
