Question: When you look back, what are some of the highlights of your life?
Answer: “I was involved in music activities in high school in Liberty, MO and was asked to direct the school band in my senior year because our band director was drafted.”
“A friend of mine was a member of a barbershop chorus and we formed a quartet. We often sang at retirement homes, one of which was Friendship Village! The highlight of my career was joining the Ambassadors of Harmony, an award-winning chorus of 160 men. My wife Marilyn and I attended the International Convention in Calgary, Canada where the chorus won their first of many gold medals. We traveled with the chorus to Ireland and the director Jim Henry accepted an invite to participate in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Great trips and wonderful chorus members and their families afforded us ten years of sheer enjoyment!”
“I am also an avid bridge player and met Marilyn at a bridge tournament in 1976. We were married two years later and combined families of eleven children. Our family has grown, and we now have 21 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and two more on the way. It’s been a great life for 95 years!” – Del Massey, Friendship Village Sunset Hills resident
After gathering about 170 interviews and photos, we will publish A BOOK featuring all the great residents who participated at Friendship Village Chesterfield and Friendship Village Sunset Hills. AND PARTICIPANTS get A FREE COPY OF THE BOOK! During the period of working on the project, we will also be sharing these photos and stories on Facebook and other social media such as Instagram, so look for them and please follow the hashtag #WeAreFriendshipVillage to stay current with the project!
We think it’s a great chance to share a bit about who we are! Residents’ participation takes about fifteen minutes, so it won’t take much time to be a part of it and we think everyone will enjoy getting to know their neighbors and friends a little bit better!
We look forward to seeing you as we get to share insights about the senior living residents who are making our Friendship Village retirement communities so great!
Thanks again!
