Question: Where did you sing and what has that meant to you?
Answer: “I started singing when I was 12, although I didn’t perform solos until I was in college. I sang with several audition-only groups including the St. Louis Symphony Chorus, the St. Louis Chamber Chorus, and spent 17 years in the American Kantorei, which is a Lutheran group of 32 singers. I was also the alto soloist in several churches including Christ Church Cathedral downtown for 5 years. I had stopped singing solos when I was 60, but when I moved here, my old choir director was here. So, she passed along that I sang, and I got pulled into singing at the Monday Coffee Hour, which was wonderful, and I enjoyed it. Music is beautiful. It’s an absolute thrill to sing with a group of such talented people. I like challenging stuff, and so the different things I’ve done in music require me to work at it all the time – which for me makes it fun. It’s not fun if it’s too easy and boring. When you have the finished product, it’s glorious. When you’re working on this little segment here, then that little segment there, not so much – but when you put it all together it’s truly fantastic. There’s been a lot of stress in my life between my husband and two best friends passing away recently. Being able to get into a rehearsal and not think about anything other than the music in that moment is beautiful and it’s a very good release to just take my mind off other things.” – Madge Boyer, resident Friendship Village Chesterfield

The above photo and text are part of our new year-long project we’re calling We Are Friendship Village. We are posting these photos and brief interviews to our website’s blog section every day as we talk with residents at Friendship Village Chesterfield and Friendship Village Sunset Hills. The idea is to give a snapshot introduction to the residents who make up our wonderful senior living communities and give you a peek at something you might not know about them!
At year’s end, we will publish A BOOK featuring all the great residents who participated. ALSO, ANYONE WHO PARTICIPATES GETS A FREE COPY OF THE BOOK! During this year, we will also be sharing these photos and text on Facebook and other social media such as Instagram, so look for them and please follow the hashtag #WeAreFriendshipVillage to stay up to date!
We think it’s a great chance to share a bit about who we are! Residents’ participation takes less than ten minutes, so it won’t take much time to be a part of it and we think everyone will enjoy getting to know their neighbors and friends a bit better!
If you are interested in participating (or know someone else who might be), feel free to give us a call at (314) 270-7837 or email at nagysteve@fvstl.com or drop by the marketing suites in Sunset Hills or Chesterfield. We have 365 of these to do over the course of the year, so everyone is welcome!
We look forward to meeting with you as we get to share about the senior living residents who are making our Friendship Village retirement communities so wonderful!
Thanks again!
