Question: In what ways have you grown and changed since moving from your house?
Answer: “Before I came here, I had other interests such as gardening and keeping bird feeders. But when I moved out here my interests grew and changed. It’s like opening a whole new world. I’m a part of planning the Monday Morning Coffee Hour and we have weekly meetings, and on Tuesday’s I go to the Village Care Center to call bingo. When I first moved here, I volunteered a lot because before me, my parents lived here and had a very positive experience, so I felt like I needed to give back to the residents that were so kind to my parents. But my favorite things now are playing Bridge and shooting pool. We have a pool tournament once a month and I organize the Thursday night Bridge group that meets. We have four to five tables and it’s a lot of fun. I found out I’m actually pretty competitive and by participating in different games and groups, I’ve met a lot of people. My kids always tell me, ‘Mom you’re completely different!’ because of all the things I do now. – Marilyn Abell, resident Friendship Village Chesterfield

The above photo and text are part of our new year-long project we’re calling We Are Friendship Village. We are posting these photos and brief interviews to our website’s blog section every day as we talk with residents at Friendship Village Chesterfield and Friendship Village Sunset Hills. The idea is to give a snapshot introduction to the residents who make up our wonderful senior living communities and give you a peek at something you might not know about them!
At year’s end, we will publish A BOOK featuring all the great residents who participated AND EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATES GETS A FREE COPY OF THE BOOK ! During this year, we will also be sharing these photos and text on Facebook and other social media such as Instagram, so look for them and please follow the hashtag #WeAreFriendshipVillage to stay up to date!
We think it’s a great chance to share a bit about who we are! Residents’ participation takes less than ten minutes, so it won’t take much time to be a part of it and we think everyone will enjoy getting to know their neighbors and friends a bit better!
If you are interested in participating (or know someone else who might be), feel free to give us a call at (314) 270-7837 or email at nagysteve@fvstl.com or drop by the marketing suites in Sunset Hills or Chesterfield. We have 365 of these to do over the course of the year, so everyone is welcome!
We look forward to meeting with you as we get to share about the senior living residents who are making our Friendship Village retirement communities so wonderful!
Thanks again!
