Question: What’s something you did when you were younger that’s stuck with you through the years?
Answer: “Writing. It’s a way to communicate with other generations and I think it’s important to share and teach what I know, as well as what I don’t. Now it’s become more connected to family history. I’ve been scrapbooking to make the family history come alive too, so it won’t be boring. I have 11 grandchildren and fortunately most of them are very interested and always nag me, “Grandma, you haven’t written anything about the Krones yet!” I did a 200-page documentation on my grandmother on my mom’s side of the family and fortunately they’re both savers and lived in a small town, so everything was an article in the newspaper. I did about 100 pages of photos and articles and the other half was writing stories. I also write about aging and how to accomplish that. I write occasionally for the Village Voice and one of the more popular things I wrote was called ‘If Only’. The whole jist of it was the concept of, “If only I had understood how difficult it is to grow old, I would have had a lot more patience with my parents.” I interviewed people here and asked them what they wished they would’ve known. I wanted to get people to be more patient with their children, understanding when we were at that age, we didn’t have a clue about getting old either. So, I took an idea from David Letterman and did a top-ten list called ‘10 Things We Wish Our Children Would Realize,’ and I still get comments about that.” – Karen Krone, resident Friendship Village Chesterfield

The text and photo above are part of a year-long project called We Are Friendship Village. We are gathering these photos and brief interviews for Friendship Village’s website’s blog section each day as we chat with residents at Friendship Village Chesterfield and Friendship Village Sunset Hills. We want to give a snapshot introduction to the residents who make up our wonderful senior living communities and give some bit of insight into something you might not know about them. It’s always easier to make new friends when you know a little about them!
At year’s end, we will publish A BOOK featuring the wonderful residents who participated. And people who participate in the project get a FREE COPY OF THE BOOK! During this year, we will also be sharing these photos and text on Facebook and other social media such as Instagram, so keep an eye out for them! And you can follow the hashtag #WeAreFriendshipVillage to stay up to date!
We’re excited for this great chance to share a bit about who we are! Residents’ participation takes just a few minutes, so it won’t take much time to be a part of it!!
Want to participate (or know someone else who might want to?), Please give us a call at (314) 270-7837 or send an email to nagysteve@fvstl.com or drop by the marketing suites in Sunset Hills or Chesterfield. We have 365 of these to do over the course of the year, so everyone is welcome!
We’re looking forward to talking with folks as we get to share more about the senior living residents who are making our Friendship Village retirement communities so wonderful!
Thanks!
