"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light." - 1 Peter 2:9
Peter wrote his first letter to believers who had become scattered all across the region, as they fled from a great persecution that had risen against them. These early believers found themselves in new communities, separated from former friends and neighbors (and all of their former history) as they worked to establish new lives. Peter reminded them that despite these changes, God was yet at work in them. They still belonged to Him, and He yet had wonderful purpose for them. The same Lord is at work in us. We belong to Him, and He has purpose for us!
