The Gospel of John devotes multiple chapters to the teachings and events that took place on the night before Jesus was crucified. As John writes out the account, he begins with the verse referenced above. John wants to make sure that we understand that all that Jesus did, and all that He experienced and endured, came from a heart of deep and fervent love. The Lord’s disciples were far from perfect. They often failed to understand Christ’s teachings, and they made all kinds of errors and mistakes. That very night, they would even all betray Him. Yet, the Lord’s love endures. On our worst day, He remains faithful. His love never quits.
